FIRE ENGINES

Engine 8212

Engine 8212 is a Type 1 Fire Engine built by Beck Fire Apparatus in Cloverdale California in 1987 and housed at the Arcata Station.  The Fire Engine carries 500 gallons of water and pumps 1,250 gallons per minute through a Darley pump.  Due to the short wheelbase, it carries a ladder compliment of a 26’ Extension ladder, 12’ Roof ladder and 10’ Attic ladder.  The Fire Engine carries a compliment of Basic Life Support equipment and extra Wildland fire hose. 

Engine 8217 is a Type 1 Fire Engine built by Beck Fire Apparatus in Cloverdale California in 1989 and housed at the McKinleyville Station.  The Fire Engine carries 600 gallons of water and pumps 1,250 gallons per minute through a Darley pump.  The Fire Engine carries a compliment of Basic Life Support equipment plus an Automatic External Defibrillator.  The Fire Engine is equipped with large diameter hose for water supply and a Thermal Imaging Camera to detect people trapped in buildings or the movement of fire through smoke.

Engine 8215

Engine 8215 is a Type 1 Fire Engine built by Pierce Fire Apparatus in Appleton Wisconsin in 1995 and housed at the Arcata Station.  The Fire Engine carries 750 gallons of water and pumps 1,250 gallons per minute through a Waterous pump.  The Fire Engine carries a compliment of Basic Life Support equipment plus an Automatic External Defibrillator.  The Fire Engine is equipped with large diameter hose for water supply and a Thermal Imaging Camera to detect people trapped in buildings or the movement of fire through smoke.

Engine 8211

Engine 8211 is a Type 1 Fire Engine built by Ferrara Fire Apparatus in Holden Louisiana in 2006 and housed at the McKinleyville Station.  The Fire Engine carries 750 gallons of water and pumps 2,000 gallons per minute through a Waterous pump.  The Fire Engine is equipped with large diameter hose for water supply, a Blitz Fire Monitor and a Deck Gun on top to maximize the gallons per minute output.   The Fire Engine has 7 pre-connected attack lines ranging in size from 1 ½” diameter to 3” diameter for the blitz fire.  It carries a Thermal Imaging Camera to detect people trapped in buildings or the movement of fire through smoke.  It also carries the Jaws of Life, rope rescue gear, Urban Search and Rescue tools, a Stihl chainsaw and Rotary Saw for cutting steel or concrete.  The Fire Engine carries a compliment of Basic Life Support equipment plus an Automatic External Defibrillator and Stokes Basket.

SPECIALIZED EQUIPMENT 

Engine 8239 is a Type 3 Fire Engine built by Ferrara Fire Apparatus in Holden Louisiana in 2007 and housed at the Mad River Station.  The Fire Engine carries 500 gallons of water and pumps 1,000 gallons per minute through a Hale pump equipped with class ‘A’ and ‘B’ firefighting foam systems.  The Fire Engine is equipped with a combination of structure fire fighting equipment and Wildland fire fighting equipment.   The Fire Engine is 4 feet shorter and 7,000 pounds lighter than our Type 1 Fire Engines.  It has 4-wheel drive capabilities and is designed for the steeper hills and driveways in our rural setting.   It will protect the residences in the wintertime that are affected with snow or hard to reach due to high water levels flooding the roads.  In the summertime it will specialize in fighting grass and brush fires.  It carries a Thermal Imaging Camera to detect people trapped in buildings or the movement of fire through smoke.  It also carries the Jaws of Life, rope rescue gear, Urban Search and Rescue tools, a Stihl chainsaw and portable water pump.  The Fire Engine carries a compliment of Basic Life Support equipment plus an Automatic External Defibrillator.

Water Tender 8258

Water Tender 8258 was built in 1998 by Central States Fire Apparatus and housed at the Mad River Station.  The Water Tender carries 3,000 gallons of water and pumps 1,250 gallons per minute through a Waterous pump.  The unit was designed to protect the residences in rural areas without fire hydrants.  The Water Tender has enough basic firefighting equipment to act alone during times of natural disasters. 

Truck 8283 is a Quint Aerial Platform Truck built in 2001 by American LaFrance and is housed behind the Mad River Station in its own building.  The Quint has the following 5 main functions:  100’ aerial ladder, extra ground ladders, 2,000 gallon per minute pump, 300 gallon water tank and attack lines.  The aerial ladder has a platform with 2 nozzles that flow 1,000 gallons per minute through each nozzle.  The platform can carry 1,000 pounds at any angle, which is designed for rescue.  The platform has anchor points that allow firefighters to repel downward or attach a Stokes basket to carry a non-ambulatory patient.  The truck carries a variety of firefighting tools, large diameter supply hose, and a backpack cutting torch.

Rescue 8274 is a dedicated Rescue Truck built by Pierce Manufacturing in Appleton Wisconsin in 1994 and housed at the McKinleyville Station.  The Rescue carries Holmatro brand rescue tools such as:  2 heavy duty Jaws of Life, 1 cutter, 2 rams for pushing or pulling, 3 high pressure air bags and a portable foot pump as a back-up.  The Rescue also carries: a glass saw, air chisel, low pressure air bags, Rescue 42 Struts and cribbing for stabilization, rope and hardware for building mechanical advantage systems, water removal and salvage equipment, hand tools, portable lighting including 2 light mast towers, extra air bottles and numerous other items and power tools.

Command Vehicles 8200, 8201 and 8202, are Ford F-350, 4x4, crew cabs built in 2008.  They are staffed by Chief Officers and carry a 20-pound dry chemical extinguisher, a 5 gallon pressurized water extinguisher, tow strap, toolbox, fire investigation forms, collection containers, digital camera, dog resuscitation equipment, and a compliment of Basic Life Support equipment plus an Automatic External Defibrillator.  All 3 units have a GPS, cell phone, mobile radio and a hand-held radio.  The units were designed to operate during natural disasters, floods, and snow and on the beach or in the mountain terrain areas.  The pick-up bed is long enough to fit a Stokes basket to remove patients and get them to an awaiting ambulance. 

Unit 8200 is operated by the duty officer and contains a second mobile radio for fire ground operations and a Mobile Data Terminal (MDT) computer.  The MDT provides aerial over-views of specific locations, pre-plan documents, Haz-Cat software to research chemicals and other hazardous materials and can fax or print documents from the vehicle.
